FKAA Assists Income Eligible Seniors and Permanently Disabled Veterans

Florida Keys – January 10, 2018 – The FKAA is continuing its effort to assist income-eligible seniors and permanently disabled veterans by reducing their monthly utility bills.  This discount removes the base facility charge for the water bill and will also eliminate the wastewater base facility charge for those customers in FKAA wastewater districts (Bay Point, Big Coppitt, Cudjoe Regional, Conch Key, Duck Key, Key Haven and Layton).  Qualified customers may save up to $39.06 per month.  This assistance is currently provided to about 1,700 households in the Keys.

To be eligible the applicant must be 60 years of age or older or they must be a permanently disabled veteran on the date of application.  Applicants’ income must be less than the maximum benefit limits set by the Social Security Administration for benefits.  The current maximum income for a single person household is $33,456 and, for a residence with more than one occupant, the maximum allowed income is $66,912.

To apply customers simply complete the application on line or at any of FKAA’s three customer service offices.  New applications are accepted throughout the year, but will expire on March 31st of the following year.  To continue the discount without interruption customers must reapply by March 31st.
